Police deny arrest of 13 MRC planning attacks in Kiunga, Lamu County

Police have denied reports that 13 MRC suspects have been arrested as they planned ‘ethnic cleansing’ attacks similar to Mpeketoni in Lamu
Head of operation in Lamu Robert Kitur has denied claims made by ministry of Interior claiming the attacks in its Twitter handle. Kitur maintained that no MRC member has been arrested within Kiunga area near Kenya-Somalia border.
Kitur told The Star on phone that the joint operations has not apprehended any suspected militia planning attacks.
Kitur only confirmed the ongoing operation within Mpeketoni area where more than 65 people have been killed and others seriously wounded by armed gunmen.
Lamu police boss Samuel Obara said he was not aware of any arrest in Kiunga in Lamu west .
He said no joint operation has been carried out within Kiunga as alleged in social media.
The ministry of Interior had earlier claimed that 13 members of the Mombasa Republican Council suspected to be planning an attack similar to that in Mpeketoni, Lamu County have been arrested.
The Ministry further claimed that the 13 were arrested in Kiunga area in Lamu. They are suspected to have been planning an “ethnic cleansing” attack in four areas at the Coast, namely; Witu, Kipini Marereni, and Garsen. Witu is the scene where five more people were killed.
