Beledweyne — At least 14 people have been reported killed in clashes over farmland in Deefow vicinity, 40km north of Hiraan regional capital of Beledweyne of central Somalia on Tuesday, Garowe Online reports.

The fighting flared up in the early hours of the morning after armed clan militias quarreled about agricultural land, subsequently leading to shootout, sources stated. Twenty fighters were wounded in the battle.

Director-General of Beledweyne Hospital Ahmed Mohamed Kalif told GO that 19 persons have been admitted to the medical facility.

“Six wounded militiamen who were in critical condition were airlifted to Mogadishu for treatment,” said Khalif.

Traditional leaders and regional administration called for an end to hostility between the two clans.

Independent sources in Beledweyne unveil that mediation is underway following the deadliest fighting over farmland in recent months.
